Monte Mario Nature Reserve

A landscape strategy addressing fire risk, ecological fragmentation, and accessibility within a biodiverse and historically significant site. The proposal integrates fire prevention, stormwater management, and ecological restoration through a system of strategically placed retention ponds, enhancing existing programs such as the equine center, garden facilities, and underused urban edges. Fire-resilient planting, spatial buffering, and controlled vegetation structure reduce vulnerability, while water-sensitive design improves landscape performance. The project introduces new connections, safer trails, and productive landscapes, including an urban farm and community spaces, transforming the reserve into a more resilient, accessible, and ecologically balanced environment.
