Monte Mario Nature Reserve — Ecological Restoration
MLA Project, Sapienza University of Rome
A landscape strategy addressing fire risk, ecological fragmentation, and accessibility within a biodiverse and historically significant urban reserve. The proposal integrates fire prevention, stormwater management, and ecological restoration through a network of retention ponds, fire-resilient planting, and controlled vegetation structure. Existing programs — including an equine center and garden facilities — are enhanced, while new connections, safer trails, and productive landscapes introduce an urban farm and community spaces. The result is a more resilient, accessible, and ecologically balanced reserve embedded within Rome's urban fabric.
