TEACHERS' LAUNGE DESIGN PROJECT 2017
Teachers' Lounge Design Project
Academic Project, University of Gondar
A faculty lounge designed on a steeply sloping campus site, with a three-meter level change informing a split-level layout. Two indoor dining spaces with kitchens are positioned at the upper and lower levels, connected by an outdoor terrace that acts as a transitional social space between them.
The concept centers on making teachers feel at ease, human-scale, informal, and momentarily removed from the campus environment. Angular semi-hexagonal forms give the spaces a welcoming quality, while internal atrium gardens bring nature into both dining levels. A tensile fabric roof was introduced as a lightweight structural solution, prefabricated off-site and installed to cover interior spaces while maintaining an open, airy character.
